Personality::
Clara can be rather shy at times, though once you know her you'll wonder how you ever thought she was shy. She's hyperactive and outgoing, though at the same time able to be calm and give out thoughtful advice. She loves to be outside, and really opens up when outdoors. During the winter she can be rather glum (since she dislikes the cold and therefore won't go outside much). As soon as spring bursts forth it's hard to keep her inside or focused on much of anything for long. One of her favorite pastimes is hiking, and she also likes to simply sit in the grass and watch wildlife. And fly, too. She adores flying and becoming one with the animals she loves so much. She treats guys and girls the same, never really awkward around guys, and never overly 'girly' around her girlfriends. She can be rather hardheaded if she feels you don't have a good reason for whatever you're arguing for, though tries (with some success) to see both sides of any argument. If you disrespect nature or animals in any way, expect her to hold a grudge for a long time. Not much can set Clara off, but if you get on her bad side it will be hard to get back up. Surprisingly enough (being the outdoorsy person she is) she loves[/u] video games and is really good at them. Back home she could beat most of the boys on any of the games of their choice, much to their dismay. She also enjoys photography and playing the cello, though both have taken a smaller role in her life since finding out her powers. Introduction::
Clara Ann Picanço comes from a rough household where her parents fought for years before finally divorcing. She knew they had stayed together that long for her, regardless of what they said. It was easy to hear things that were shouted, things you wouldn't say to people unless you truly hated them. She tried to put on a happy face for her friends so they wouldn't worry, but she cracked every once and awhile - often enough that they knew despite what she let show that things were worse than she let on.Animal Shift::
One day in winter she had had enough of the fighting. She yelled at her parents that she was going for a walk, grabbed her coat, and left the house. She had been walking for barely ten minutes, wishing she could just get away from it all, when suddenly she was a lot smaller and hovering off the ground. A strange sensation in her arms caught her attention and she looked only to find feathery wings. Stretching her tiny legs forward, she found little claws instead of feet. She panicked for a moment, tiny bird heart hammering in her tiny bird body, before landing and stumbling around. She got the hang of her feet after a minute or so, and tried flying again. That took longer, but she was able to get off the ground after several attempts.
She flew over her house in the country, between the two huge oaks in the backyard and out over the pasture where several horses raised their heads at her ecstatic bird calls (noises that came naturally, though it surprised her when she made them). She was a bright blur against the ever-blue sky and loved it.
She flew out away from the house, then back over the horses, flying low and chittering back at them when they whinnied at her. She wondered if they could sense who she truly was, but didn't have time to find out. A hawk, picking out her bright colors with the utmost ease, cried out above her and swooped down, claws outstretched. She dove for the ground out of panic, hitting the grass hard and tumbling in the mud from the horses hooves. Disoriented, it took few minutes before she realized she was normal again, running towards the house and crying. Her heart thumped as fast as the little bird's heart had, but she couldn't help a nervous laugh at the thought of the reaction of the hawk. Must be weird having your prey suddenly grow ten times larger than you.
A dull ache in her arm caused her to look down, only to see white bone peeking through her skin. Flushing at the sight she stumbled around the house, suddenly very aware of the pain, and into the house. She had to call a few times before her parents paused long enough to make their way to her but when they did they both turned pale at the sight of their daughter. With her jeans ripped, arm broken and mud all over her, she was quite a sight. She was rushed to the hospital, and it was quite a while before she could muster up the nerve to fly again.
Once she did, though, it was hard to keep her from doing it over and over again. She snuck out often, though more often than not she could pretend to care for the horses and then fly. She turned into more of an outdoors person than she was already, but never forgot her first time flying or the hawk. She rarely lets her guard down now.
Eventually she got tired of hiding what she was, and began searching for others who had powers like hers. The problem with that was that no one else was about to come right out and say 'oh yeah, I can shift!' for fear of being an outcast to society. Nearly a year into her search, she heard rumors about a place called Variel Academy. Being ready to go off on her own, she didn't have to make up an excuse to leave (though her parents' constant bickering even divorced as they were was a good reason too). She packed up and left, saying awkward goodbyes to family and friends, and made her way to a place she could only hope was true. Somewhere she belonged.
Standing only four inches tall, Clara tends to be wary when shifted despite her love for the gouldian finch. Sure, it would've been nice to be able to shift into something big and powerful like a tiger, but flying makes up for the downsides of the little finch shift. The bright colors of the bird truly let her shine whereas in her average, timid body she was born with she simply merges with the background.Make sure you read the rules![/font][/b]:
The gouldian finch has a near-solid green back, with a little bit of blue before the black tail. Her head is red, outlined in black, along with a black chin. A bright purple chest catches the eye, while a bright yellow along the lower front tries its best to outside the purple. Below the yellow is some white, which carries to the underside of the tail. Some blue is thrown in between the green of the back and sides, and the black head, adding a slight flair.
Gouldian finches, by nature, are extremely social birds, and that aspect has transferred over to Clara and affected her behavior. If she's not soaring just for the fun of it, then she's with others (especially birds, wild or not) and attempting some kind of interaction. When shifted she tends to be more social than normal. Whether than is because she truly is affected by the nature of her shift, or whether it is just her love of flying, she can't be sure though always blames it on the bird (she thinks it's rather embarrassing to admit she almost likes being a bird more than a human).
